Woven techniques in textile art

Woven Sculptures

In this work I am exploring the potential of creating unique surfaces and shapes with the use of woven techniques. Being able to make the fabric from the warp and weft and build up on the skeleton structure gives me a lot more control on how the fabric will look, thereby adding a new dimension in the creation of the artwork.

Hand making these fabrics means that they are used as one-off rather than mass-produced designs because of the time laboured aspect of my work. It is important for me that these textile art pieces explore the potential of manipulating yarns to create something that is not only aesthetic but also hand crafted. And the nature of hand crafting means I can push my methods further for each unique piece.
